10 Affordable Room Decor Ideas

10 Affordable & Easy Room Decor Ideas

By: Samantha L '23

Because of distance learning, we are spending more time online and most of us are attending class in our rooms. After spending months in the same set of four walls, it starts to seem drab.  In this article, you will be able to find inspiration to “Spice-up” your room!

  1. Large poster or tapestry

Large posters and tapestries can change the look of your room. If you hate the color of your wall you can cover parts of it with posters in a preferred color. It is a non-permanent way to change the color scheme of your room.

  1. Organize bookshelf

If you have a bookshelf like me, sometimes it can get messy from neglect. But reorganization can make your room look nicer.

Some ways to organize your shelf include:

  • By Color

  • By book Height

  • Alphabetical order (if you have a lot of free time)

  • Genre

  • School books and Non-School books

  • Any way you’d like!

    3. Photo Collage

Another interesting way to make your room unique to yourself is a photo wall. You can tape polaroids, postcards, or print out photos and place them on the wall. To make it extra unique you can have photos you took, the drawings you drew, and your favorite memes.

  1. Lights

Lights are a very popular decoration in most teen rooms. They are nice because using them at night is easier on the eyes than a bright ceiling light.  Even when they are off they still make cute decor.

  1. Seasonal Decorations

To get into the *Autumn Aesthetic* decorate your room in yellows, reds, oranges, and browns to match the color of the leaves outside. An easy way to decorate is to cut out leaves out of construction paper and string them over your window or bed. Mini pumpkins fake or real are also cute decorations to get into the fall spirit!

  1. Textbook Bookends

  • Having bookends on your desk makes it easier to store and grab the book you need.

  • You can make DIY bookends out of jars with             beads (as pictured), tall wooden blocks, rocks, or pots

  • Or you can buy bookends.

  1. Banners & Pennants

Banners and tassels are a cute way to decorate your room. They are easy to make and affordable. For the tassels you need yarn and for the pennants you will need fabric or paper.

  1. Organizers

Organizers are an affordable way to clear the clutter of your room. There are many different types of ways to organize things.  There are over the door organizers for jackets, purses, shoes, and more. You can also store things in bins and put them under the bed or on a shelf. Having an organized room helps keep it clean, so you can put less effort into tidying up.

  1. Rearrange it!

Rearranging furniture in your room makes it seem like it's a completely new space even when you use the same items. It can make the space seem larger and completely different. Just moving your bed to another wall gives you a whole new perspective. Try finding new uses for different items.

  1. Everyday basics

To have your room look the best it can be sure to do these simple things:

  • Make Your Bed

  • Put things where they belong

  • Try not to pile things in a spot (floor, table, etc)

  • Make sure most items have a designated spot

And… Your Room DOES NOT HAVE TO LOOK PERFECT. These rooms pictured in this article are most likely staged. Your room does not have to be fancy or cool, it just needs to show your uniqueness!
