As of this week, Mercy is officially in the second session of their athletic strength and conditioning. The Crusaders have loved having the opportunity to be back on campus, getting back into the groove of things, and meeting new friends.
The conditioning sessions have for sure been a positive for our athletes. Not only does it help get them back into shape and ready for the season, but it has also given them the chance to socialize and form a close knit bond with their Crusader sisters. Freshman Ysabel Cancio has been on campus conditioning for volleyball and had a lot of appreciable things to say including, “I love the sisterhood very much. Whenever I go to conditioning or any school activity, I feel like I'm really part of the community...like a second family to me already." She also added, “I love the friendly competition between me and my new friends. It's really easy to bond as well over things we have in common'. “ Freshman Eva Gale also had great things to say. She said, “I really enjoy being on the cheer team because everyone is always so supportive especially since I’m new. It doesn’t matter if you’re the best on the team or if you're just starting out, it's a really welcoming community and it brings me joy.”
Conditioning has also influenced our athletes to already set goals for themselves this upcoming season. For instance, Junior Ariana Montiel plays softball and said, “My goals for this season are to have a higher batting percentage, stolen bases, and improve my running speed. I also want to hopefully get recruited by colleges and reach out for them to watch me play.” Additionally, Junior Ashley Marheineke plays volleyball and said, “I want to have the opportunity to get better, not only as an athlete but also as a teammate and always try my best even in situations that I might not be used to. “
Through conditioning, our athletes are learning what it truly means to work hard and be a part of a team. We definitely have a lot of determined and promising athletes. May all our sisters learn, grow, and win together. Go, Crusaders!
