Kairos 20

Image
Kairos 20 By Angelica Buncio ‘22   Last week, a group of seniors were given the opportunity to attend Kairos, a special retreat that gives students the chance to take the time to reflect on their relationship with God, themselves, and others. The Greek word, “Kairos,” means a special and chosen time, which is God’s time. Being able to disconnect myself from everything else and just be in a peaceful space where I could focus on my thoughts meant a lot to me. Especially since it is senior year, I know that few of us have gotten the chance to really reflect on what is happening in our lives as everyone has been busy trying to keep their grades up, get college applications done, and still try to find time for themselves.    As we have been dealing with the coronavirus pandemic for almost two years now, it was not certain that we would have even been able to experience a traditional Kairos. However, this Kairos was definitely an amazing experience that helped bring toge...

This Year’s Mother Daughter Tea Has a New Location: Zoom

Image
This Year’s Mother Daughter Tea Has a New Location: Zoom On October 25th, 2020, Mercy Celebrated its annual mother-daughter tea tradition. This year was historic as the Tea was held over Zoom due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The service consisted of a prayer, a raffle, a game, and a slideshow of Mercy girls with their mothers and grandmothers. Some of the raffle prizes included Mercy gear, yoga equipment, and gift cards, these prizes were generously donated by Mercy’s families. Additionally, Everyone received a keepsake invitation and a packet of tea in the mail. Some participants went all out with elaborate displays of tea, cakes, snacks, and decorations, while others simply casually shared a cup of tea. Some socially distanced with loved ones, while others were divided by a screen. Despite these differences, everyone felt the love that radiated from the Zoom.  I asked members of Mercy Media to share their favorite part of the event, and here are their responses: “My f...

Mercy's Pumpkin Patch!

Image
The Mercy Pumpkin Patch! By: Bharathi Arivazhagan In celebration of the fall season, Mercy faculty recently held the Mercy Pumpkin Patch on October 10th. In order to prepare for the Halloween/Fall season, an entire pumpkin patch was held at school, containing enormous amounts of pumpkins to hand to students. Many pumpkins were large in size, and many students from the freshman class up to the senior class came to pick up a pumpkin through their designated times. For distribution of the pumpkins, our very own Freshman Council helped with greeting and helping students with the selection of pumpkins.  Faculty and students had a wonderful time through this event, an event that many Mercy students were  able to experience in celebration of the wonderful fall season! Many are excited to carve their own  pumpkins, as they carried their pumpkins home from Mercy. Here are some photos from the Mercy  Instagram platform from the pumpkin patch event: P umpkins.   Kicking Off Sports By: Angelica Buncio ‘22 As of this week, Mercy is officially in the second session of their athletic strength and conditioning. The Crusaders have loved having the opportunity to be back on campus, getting back into the groove of things, and meeting new friends.  The conditioning sessions have for sure been a positive for our athletes. Not only does it help get them back into shape and ready for the season, but it has also given them the chance to socialize and form a close knit bond with their Crusader sisters. Freshman Ysabel Cancio has been on campus conditioning for volleyball and had a lot of appreciable things to say including, “I love the sisterhood very much. Whenever I go to conditioning or any school activity, I feel like I'm really part of the community...like a second family to me already." She also added, “I love the friendly competition between me and my new friends. It's really easy to bond as well over things we have in common'. “ ...
