  Lunar New Year! By Madison H. Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year! This custom can be dated back all the way to the Shang Dynasty, 1600-1046 BC. Over the years, Lunar New Year evolved into the celebrations we have today. The festivities can last 16 days even though only the first seven are considered a national holiday. The year of 2020 was the year of the rat, and since February 21, 2021 it is now the year of the Ox. Lunar New Year is celebrated in many countries around the world like the US. There are several traditions for different cultures and I am going to tell you about some from the Chinese culture. Traditions: Red envelopes: This is a tradition for the elder give small gifts to the children in the family. Only new money must be given because it is the new year.   Self care Samantha Lynch ‘23 One of our most frequent responses to the 2021 goal survey was to take better care of yourself. There are a lot of small things you can do to better take care of yourself. Give yourself a break… It's easy to get lost in schoolwork, however sometimes you need to take a break. Taking just a few minutes for yourself can help increase your productivity and even calm yourself down. Taking a short break is extremely helpful for your mental and physical health. Hydrate! Drinking the correct amount of water has countless health benefits including clearer skin, prevention of  headaches, and increased energy.  Get Outside! Getting outside is a good way to care for yourself. You can go for a walk, run, or practice a sport. If you are going to be outside near other people, please social distance and wear masks. Keep in contact with friends and family. Keeping in contact with loved ones is very helpful and can lift your mood and make you feel less alone....

This year has been especially challenging in distance learning and requires even more focus and time management which have been major adjustments. In 2021, academics may be at the forefront of your goals for the year. We’ve prepared some tips to help you start the school year off on the right foot. Make a Running To-do List Making a to-do list sounds like such a simple action, but it is one of the most effective ways to stay organized. Whether you jot it down on a piece of paper or use an app such as Google Keep, visualizing your assignments is so helpful when practicing time management. As the week goes on, add assignments, study sessions, and other to-dos to your list so you do not have to constantly refer back to Schoology.
