Featured Clubs #3
Featured Clubs #3
By Samantha Lynch ‘23
So far we have covered a small fraction of Mercy’s Clubs. If you are interested in your club being featured in the next edition, fill out this google form. Anyways, in this week’s installment of Featured Clubs, we will highlight the Love, You Club and the Philosophers Club!
Love, You Club
The Love, You Club is a new club this year. President Mika Omail ‘23 shared that the idea for this club came when “my friend came up to me and asked if I wanted to make a club with her. I agreed and pitched the idea of making gifts for kids sick in hospitals as I was already working on that project by myself. Now we have an amazing group helping us make small gifts like rings and bracelets to cheer up others.” This club is a great way to spread kindness and help others.
The club meets in Mr. D’s room during collaboration. During a typical meeting, they will create a plan and then be able to work on their gifts freely. They will then collect them and donate them to the Children in the hospital. Members enjoy this club because “it is really chill and they can get service hours.”
The Philosopher's Club
Another new club this year is the Philosopher’s Club. It was started by Tristan Lamina Lee ‘23 and Rachael Taillon ‘23. The club is moderated by Mr. Lydon and they meet during collaboration. When creating this club, they said, “They wanted a space where they could have engaging conversations with people who also wanted to talk about life and its mysteries.” The meetings are usually conversations and debates about philosophical paradoxes, the human condition, ethics, their lives, or anything that their members would like to discuss. Asking important questions is encouraged! These discussions may sound complex, but all are welcome to chime in. Tristan and Rachael make sure to make these discussions engaging and fun for all even if you know very little about philosophy.
The Philosopher's Club is also planning a fundraiser so stay tuned for more information!
