Featured Clubs #4: Environmental Club
Featured Clubs #4: Environmental Club
By Samantha Lynch ‘23
In this week’s Featured Clubs Article, we will be covering the Environmental Club. The Environmental Club has been a fixture in Mercy’s Community for many years and is pushing Mercy to a greener more sustainable future. The club meets during collaboration and is moderated by Ms. LaFarge.
A typical club meeting consists of a discussion around current environmental news. Club President Cassandra Bosquet ‘22 and Co-Vice President Angelica Buncio ‘22 are both Youth Climate Ambassadors for San Mateo County and they will discuss local news regarding climate change. Then they will work on some of the club-sponsored service projects (which often can count towards service hours!). One of their projects is an upcoming composting plan!
“As the Environmental Club, we are trying to make Mercy an even more environmentally-conscious school through educating people and raising awareness about environmental issues and how to be a good environmental citizen, as well as taking action through service and projects.”
-Environmental Club Mission Statement
Cassandra Bousquet joined the environmental club her freshman year because she cares deeply about the environment. She noticed that Mercy did not have compost bins and she wanted to change that. She worked up the ranks of the club until becoming president in her junior year. Unfortunately COVID-19 halted her plan, but now she is back on track. After speaking with the school administration, she hopes that she will be able to put her plan in action within the next month.
The Environmental Club is looking forward to unveiling their new composting plan. Be sure to stay tuned for it!
