Freshman End of 1st Quarter Celebration
Freshman End of 1st Quarter Celebration

Mercy’s class of 2025 has made it through their first quarter of high school! Starting high school (especially after a life-changing pandemic) was a big transition for many of our freshmen and it is important to celebrate this accomplishment. During this week’s C-day, freshmen reunited with their Link Crews and their Link Crew leaders to participate in games.

The day started off at 9AM where the students were given a free breakfast of bagels with cream cheese and fruit. They then did a reflection activity with the other students. Afterwards, the advisories competed in a competition in which they would link hands and see which advisory could get the hula hoop through the fastest. Afterwards, the crews competed in a ‘telephone charades’ game.
When reflecting on their experience at Mercy, the freshmen said that they tried new things such as talking to new people, joining a club, and playing for a sports team. Many felt that somethings that were a struggle were the workload, being in-person, and making new friends.

Afterwards, the crews went on a scavenger hunt in which they needed to take photos of them in a human pyramid, with a staff member, the Mary statue, and more. The groups needed to gather a cool rock, a sticker, and “something uniquely freshman.” In total, there were 17 things that needed to be found. After running around, Mr. Offield’s advisory snagged first place in this competition.

After the scavenger hunt, they had the last competition: a TikTok contest. Each of the groups came up with a creative idea to show their freshman experience in under a minute. One group made a TikTok about Mary’s brownies, while another made one about the excitement of finishing the first quarter but also having finals looming. After all of the competitions, Ms. Hyman’s advisory was awarded the title of the most spirited freshman advisory.
