recommendations appeal to you, be sure to check them out from the library or sora!
If you liked shadow and bone : King of Scars
Ms. Murphy’s Review - “Look at those covers though—just gorgeous, and the writing inside is just delightful, with strong women, snide
rulers, trying to protect their hearts, and lots of opportunities for adventure and heartbreak, Bardugo is consistently
a great writer”
Summary - Written by Leigh Bardugo. King of Scarsis the second book in the sequel duology to the Shadow and Bone and Six of Crowsseries. It follows Nikolai Lantsov, now King of Ravka, as he attempts to defend his country, forge new alliances, and save
the Grisha Army. But the dark magic within himself is growing stronger, and how much will he risk for his people?
Available - hard copy in the library and on Sora
If you liked Harry Potter : Akata Witch
Ms. Murphy's Review “A new series that has strong Wakanda vibes, is set in Nigeria, with the main character Sunny
Nazue trying to make sense of a newly found power. Teachers and more experienced "school"
mates help them learn, but ultimately it is up to them to save their people from an evil newly awoken.”
Summary - Written by Nnedi Okorafor. When 12-year-old Sunny moves from New York to Nigeria,
she is transported to a world of magic and mystery. Being albino and sensitive to sunlight, something
she was bullied for, becomes an asset for her in the world of the Leopard people, where her seemingly
worst defect is her greatest strength. She and her friends band together to find a criminal named
Black Hat Otokoko, but will they use their powers and defeat him, or will a terrible prediction of the
future become reality?
Available - on Sora
If you liked Cemetery Boys : Felix Ever After
Ms. Murphy’s Review - “Features Felix, a black transgender teen trying to find his place in the
world, and figure out who his friends and perhaps lovers are. A complicated love triangle and
lots of angst. Great writing by a really fabulous author.”
Summary- Written by Kacen Callender. Felix love, a black, transgender teen, has ironically never been in
love. After being harassed publicly online and sent transphobic messages, Felix plans revenge
that actually ends himself up in a pseudo-love triangle. At the end of his journey, Felix comes to
fully recognize his identity and maintain his most important relationship, with himself.

If you like non-fiction : Hothouse Earth
Ms. Murphy’s Review - “Explores in some depth the implications of global warming and what is causing it, what is being
considered to do about it, and what we can do as well. Not too long or too difficult a read, but with
great science”
Summary - Written by Stephanie Sammartino McPherson. As natural disasters increase,
climate change can’t be ignored. If problems in the environment aren’t addressed soon,
the Earth may be used past the point of no return. Hothouse Earth looks at how science,
politics, and social justice all have to be in the answer to solving the problem of climate change.

Coming this Week! If you like Dystopian Fiction :
The Space Between Worlds
Ms. Murphy’s Review - “This is one of the best books I've read in a VERY long time, with a sufficiently
complex setup, fabulous characters, a Sapphic love interest, truly evil corporations and more than
one twist that will give you goosebumps.”
Summary - Written by Micaiah Johnson. Set in a world with multiverse travel and parallel selves.
Cara’s parallel selves appear to be great at dying but she herself has survived. But when one of
her selves dies under particularly mysterious circumstances, she is plunged into a new world with
old secrets. Her discoveries connect her past and her future in unimaginable ways and unravels a
plot that affects the entire multiverse.
